In 1983, Bro. Thomas Leroy Washington served as the President of Calvert County Unit. The 1st Annual Day was July 17, 1983 at Brooks United Methodist Church located in Port Republic, Maryland. The Nurses Unit was organized and installed by Rev. Joseph H. Collins and Rev. Andrew W. Johnson. The capping of nurses was conducted by State President, Jessie L. Brown and 2nd Vice President Aliceteen Wade.

Bro. Howard Theodore King served as President in 1992 -1995. Prior to that time, he served as President of the Usher Board of Brooks United Methodist Church and been ushering for over 30 years. He was dedicated and was serious about his ushering. Encouraging the youth to become ushers and teaching them the proper techniques about ushering. Bro. Howard Theodore King departed this life on July 31, 1999.
In 1996, Georgia L. Jones was elected Calvert County Unit President and held that honorable position until 2010. Georgia truly loved serving as a doorkeeper in the house of the Lord. In 1978, she became a member of the Interdenominational Church Usher Association of MD under the leadership of Howard King at Brooks United Methodist Church. In effort to show her continued dedication, she served on the Nurses and Fundraiser Committee. She earned her State, National Certificates, Bachelor’s Degree and Instructor Certificate from the John R. Brown School of Ushering.
Georgia is a representative for A.W. Briggs Nurses Unit for the state of Maryland. She was crowned Queen in the King and Queen Contest at the 76th National Convention in Nevada and at the 89th National Convention in Florida. Georgia was awarded the Member of the Golden-Age Ushers who have given 40 years of loyal service to the ushers ministry in the local, state and/or National Associations.
She spent numerous hours serving on committees and attending various functions of the ICUA. Georgia is a proud long-term member of Patuxent United Methodist Church. She has proven to be a very diligent worker there. She serves in many capacities: Patuxent Usher Board President, Communion Steward, Senior Choir Member, Administrative Council, Ministerial Team, Scholarship Committee, and the United Methodist Women Committee. Her legacy is keeping ushering alive and active in Calvert County. She is still active as an Instructor for the John R. Brown School of Ushering, the Advisor for the Unit and Board of Trustees for ICUA of Maryland. Her legacy can be found in Psalm 84:10 "Better is one day in your courts than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked."
Otis Hayes was elected President of the Calvert County Unit in 2011 until his death on December 7, 2014. He was a very dedicated and hard-working president. He was organized and became active in the organization. Otis served his local church at Eastern United Methodist Church Lusby, Maryland as a member on the usher board, a Lay Speaker, SPRC, Administrative Council, Baltimore Washington Conference and Bible Study. He loved taking pictures for all occasions at the County, State and National level. He was the Junior Supervisor at the NUCCUA. He received his State, National and John R. Brown School of Ushering certificates. He was a big contributor to the unit, and he served the office faithfully with dignity, pride and determination.
Delores Sewell became President of the Calvert County Unit on December 8, 2014. Delores Sewell grew up in Mt. Olive United Methodist Church. It was there under the guidance of Brother Melborn Freeland and Sister Ernestine Holland that her usher ministry started. They arranged for the State School of Ushering to come to Calvert County and train ushers at Mt. Olive United Methodist Church. Bro. Walter Nick, Past National Dean, Bro. David Fuller, Past President of the ICUA of Maryland and Sis. Cynthia Hicks, President of ICUA Maryland provided training.
Delores served as treasurer of the Usher Board. Delores received the Maryland State School of Ushering Certificate, National, Bachelors, Alumni and National Instructor Certificate. Under the leadership of Past State President Ronny Myers and Past State Dean, Sylvia Graves.
Delores has served as State Marshall, Chairperson of Outreach Committee for Calvert County, and Chairperson of Education Committee On the National Level. She also, served as Registrar for the State of Maryland John R. Brown School of Ushering, where she logged student hours for those who attended workshops in the Art of Church Ushering, conducted by the National Convention. In 2017 Delores was awarded the Member of the Golden-Age Ushers who have given 40 years of loyal service to the ushers ministry in the local, state and/or National Associations.
Becoming an usher has allowed Delores to teach other servants of God. Servants who are willing to become doorkeepers in the house of God, learning the silent way of ushering through signs and signals. Ushering has given Delores the opportunity to serve her Lord and Savior Jesus first, and to help lead others to this ministry.
